fragile

There comes a moment when it's more than just a game, and you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away. I could quit but here's the thing, I love the playing field.

Grrr!

I was supposed to put this banner on the sidebar under the "I support…" heading when for some reason it doesnt work. It just wont show up along with my Ocean Defenders support banner. So I just decided to post it here and I'll just try to get to fixing it on the side bar later.

As you can see it shows my top Philippine Idol picks. Hehe. Kinarir ko ang MS Paint dito sa cafe para gawin yang banner na yan.
Anyways, if you want to suppert them as well, you can use that same banner. Just be sure to give the credit to me, or else I kill u!
Or better yet, watch Philippine Idol on ABC-5 every Saturday (performance night), 9pm and wait for Ryan Agoncillo's signal to vote. Just text one of the nicknames on the banner to 2339 using any network. And also catch the results the following day, Sunday, 9pm.

The List: Updated

Monday, September 18, 2006

This is just an update from one of my posts last January. I bet you can see that I have nothing else to write about.

Anyways, it was this list I made back in January about what I should accomplish this year. And here is that list, along with the current status of that specific item:

  1. Work my ass of for my own digicam. Dapat atleast 3 megapixel. Maybe i can ask my sister to buy it through her credit card para hulugan ko sa kanya… oh diba? >>>Now: Still no Digicam, di parin kasi nag-iipon, and I feel like Im not that excited to have one anymore, dont know why.
  2. Start a photo journal through my new digicam. >>>Now: I do have a photojournal, here on my blog that is, but as I've said, I still dont have the camera so the pics are from my friends' and sister's cameras.
  3. Slightly work my ass off for an mp3 player. Yung mga tig 2-3thou lang. I dont really need an iPod anyway. >>>Now: This one, Im glad to say has been accomplished! I have a fake Astone MP3 player for P2,400 discounted by P1000 for students, oh diba! Kulay orange, 512MB, mga 100 songs ang kaya, and also works as a flash disk. Its what keeps me company during boring FX, Jeepney and MRT rides. I didnt quite work my ass for it though, I bought it with the money my mom gave me for my birthday. hehe.
  4. Make up my mind on what course to take by June. Arggghhh. Anu ba talaga??? Medtech? Secondary Educ.? Bio parin? Heeelllllppppppppp!!!! >>>Now: Medical Technology is the winner on this one. And Im happy with my decision.
  5. Go to a college/university na maganda yung program nila ng napili kong course. And stay there! >>>Now: Well, I went to Trinity College of Quezon City at the start of the school year, but since July 18, Im now studying at Trinity University of Asia. Ang cool noh. Anyways, ok na ok MedTech program nila, our internships are held at St. Lukes Medical Center.
  6. …to be continued.

To be continued??? hmmm… okay, uhmmm, here's a new list of things for me to accomplish this year!

  1. Fulfill the Baguio trip with the officemates this sembreak. Take lotsa pictures. Be a traveller, not a tourist. Luzon, here I come!
  2. ahhmmm… to be continued ulit.

Animal Exploitation on Movies

Monday, September 11, 2006

So last night me and my big sister were having dinner with the TV left on. The trailer for this Tony Gonzaga-Sam Milby movie came on and she said she wanted to watch it. People of the world, meet my sister: She's cool, but she can be so jologs sometimes.

And while we were on the subject of movies, she asked about this movie "Snakes on a Plane", if it was already on theaters. I told her that even if it was, I wont watch it. I felt it was exploiting the animals. The snakes for this matter.

My sister told me that the movie used mostly animation and CGI and probably that there were no animals harmed. Well, I agree on that. They should be treated humanely for these animals are what brings in their massive box office income. But what I was trying say is that they may have been treated well in a physical aspect, but they are obviously depicted with a very bad image.

A humane society/completely-against-animal-exploitation organization may have certified that animals were never physically harmed in the production of these kinds of movies but that's all they can do, can they? No one can certainly assure us that these movies will not make ignoramies go out and kill all snakes they can see for they were led to believe that snakes have the tendency to go on a killing rampage any minute.

I tried to search the internet to support my claim that snakes only eat once a month but I could'nt find a single sentence about it. Well, my Dad took take care of over 10 snakes in a span of my childhood years and what I clearly remember was that he used to force feed the snakes with chunks of meat.

He would use a pencil's eraser end to push the chunk through its mouth and he'd slowly wriggle the food through it's body. Seems brutal but very crucial for it might die if it wasnt forced to eat. And I can bet on my body that it was done atleast once to twice a month only. Talk about a snake on a diet. Hows that for a claim?

I strongly believe that these kinds of movies should never be supported. Movies like Jaws and its endless sequels which is now a thriller classic, Anaconda and Anacondas, Deep Blue Sea, and a whole lot more. There's also this new one about rabid dogs called "The Breed". I also remember one very cheap hollywood movie about killer crocodiles which was shot here in P.I. and it featured some local actors as well.

They're just animals, for crying out loud! They make millions of money by exploiting animals. They ride on the people's natural fear of the wild and unknow and misunderstood. Now, Im all for entertainment, but these are just downright wrong.

If you have National Geographic, and you watch it, then you might have already known that its the humans who go after these animals. Shows like "Snake Wranglers" where the documentarist/scientist would fearlessly come up to a snake bigger than him and show it to the camera. Awe the open minded people about its fangs, its huge constrictor body and whatever the creature might have in its arsenal.

In these shows, I pity the animal for being disturbed in its peaceful slumber (in some instances, they even come across two mating snakes, talk about invasion of privacy!). But these are scientists, they do it for education. With every one creature's day to day life disturbed, who knows how many uninformed viewers become enlightened by their unexpected TV exposure?

I have seen Jaws, J.Lo's Anaconda, LL Cool J's Deep Blue Sea, and the cheap Croc movie. But Im proud to say I never paid a cent to see them. I just saw them on cable and well, I dont pay for the cable anyway.

I might have enjoyed them before, but let this be my stand that from now on, being the poser animal rights activist that I am, I'll never support these exploitative movies. These blatant show of how ignorant people can be. Small as it may be, but my money will never be spent to make these movie honchos a few cents richer.

Animals are not wild killing machines. Well, they are, but they're definitely not murderers. Its us humans who are.

With that said… any more poser animal rights activists out there who would like to join in on my battle cry?

Halakhak-Takot: A couch potato’s report

Friday, September 1, 2006

In a span of 2 weeks, I finished watching the first season of Desperate Housewives with about 18(?) episodes.

In 2 nights, I finished Sex and the City's 1st season with 12 episodes.

Im officially a DVD marathon whore!

As I watched DH, I just can't help but admire and sympathize with Nicolette Sheridan's character; Edie Britt (pronounced eedie), the real estate agent whose a man hopping divorcee and has once been described as a man predator. As long as she likes a man, she doesnt care about the people she might step on and she'd do everything she can to thwart the competition.

As un-appealing her character may be, I still adore her to death. She's a person who is very true to herself and is not afraid to tell the world about it. No pretentions, no fake facade in front of her. She's a bitch and she's not afraid to admit it.

Bitch as she might be, she's still remains a good, ahem, friend to Martha Hoover. She might bitch(have I used that word too much now?)around her at times but lets not forget she never hesitated to take the lead in the search and rescue for Mrs. Hoover and that she was the one who came in to throw her ashes in the lake (unsuccessful as it might have been, thanks to Susan).

And speaking of the misunderstood and discriminated, lets move on to some more present matters at hand; read Paris Hilton's music career.

A few nights ago, I was watching Myx News accompanied by VJ Iya's austrailian accent. She reported, with much sarcasm and mockery in her voice, that Ms. Hilton actually went in tears as she was listening to her own CD for she was so proud of it and that she felt it was really good music or something

I mean, why the heck would you speak with sarcasm when your speaking to possible Hilton music fans? If that's not the right way to discourage and alienate your audiences, then I dont know what is. I mean come on! Were here to see what's new in the music scene, not to hear about your own "musical taste"!

I may not be a fan of Paris' music but I believe that we shouldnt judge what she does until we see it, in this case hear it, and I bet VJ Iya hasnt yet, so she's in no way authorized to give any comments. Paris Hilton is misunderstood, she's been dissed at by most people, so here I am right behind her and crossing fingers for her CD to sell-out(that's how we measure a popstar's success anyway).

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Have you guys heared of the tagalog term iyak-tawa? Its what heppens when you get really hurt, and you got hurt in a so stupid way that you cant help but laugh and cry at the same time because of the pain. That's Iyak-tawa.

Well, just last night I caught Shaun of the Dead on HBO for what I think is the 3rd time now. Its this European(for Im not sure if its British or what) zombie flick that's a very funny spoof of Dawn of the Dead. I have to say its even better than the American movie it mocks. You see unlike Dawn, this one has a better conclusion. Plus it allows me to go Halakhak-Takot.

I think that's a new term I came up with. I never heard it before. And nope, it doesnt happen when your supposed to be scared, but the movie is so lame you end up laughing instead.

Halakhak-Takot happens when the movie is funny and scary at the same time. Just like Shaun of the Dead. You laugh as they try to kill this zombie inside the pub while the "God Save The Queen" song is accidentally played on the jukebox, giving you a sorta musical performance. And your scared as you see hordes of horrifying zombies trying to get in. That's Halakhak-takot.

…Have I been watching too much TV??? Catch ya'll later.
